New list: Don't hide the gluten

This is a list of companies that will state in the ingredients list if something contains gluten. Many companies will only list wheat because the required to by law. Sometimes oats, barley and rye are hidden in things like flavoring, spices, vinegar and malt. If you call the company they will tell you if there is gluten in the product. The list that I have is of companies that don't "hide" gluten in their labels. EX If you want to buy something from ConAgra, and you see spices listed. You can be assured that the spices do not contain gluten unless it says spices (barley).

The list I have of roughly 60 "trusted" brands/manufacturers is:
Arrowhead Mills, Aunt Nelly's, B&G Foods, Balance, Baskin Robbins, Ben & Jerry, Bertoli, Betty Crocker, Blue Bunny, Breyers, Campbells, Cascadian Farms, Celestial Seasonings, ConAgra, Country Crock, Del Monte, Edy's, General Mills, Good Humor, Green Giant, Hain Celestial Group, Haagen Daz, Hellman's, Hershey, Hormel, Hungry Jack, Jiffy, Knorr, Kozy Shack, Kraft, Lee Kum Kee USA, Lawry's, Libby's, Lipton, Martha White, Marzetti Brands, Maxwell House, McCormick, Nabisco, Nestle, Newman’s Own, Old El Paso, Ortega, Pillsbury, Popsicle, Post, Progresso, Ragu, Russell Stover, Sara Lee, Seneca Foods, Skippy, Smucker, Stokely's, Sunny Delight, T Marzetti, Tyson, Unilever, Wishbone, Yoplait, Zatarain's.

This makes shopping so much easier!Memorizing what foods are gluten free or keeping a long list to riffle through is a pain in the you-know-what. Just keep a list of these companies and eventually you will remember which ones are the good ones.

Gluten Free menu at Ruby Tuesdays

Hi. I went out for a drink the other night and found out that my local Ruby's has a gluten free menu. I ordered a turkey burger with avocado and a side of mashed cauliflower with cheese. It was great! Very satisfied indeed. So I'm not sure if the whole chain is coming out with a gluten free menu but it's worth checking out. If I can get my hands on that menu, I'll be sure to post it.

What are you looking for?

Chances are you found my blog because you are looking for something gluten free. Hopefully you find it here but if not and would like to request something, just drop me an email or comment to this post. I'll have it up in no time. I just don't know what people are looking for.

I'll say this though... The most important gluten free info I have ever gotten was the "safe companies" list. When I don't know if something is safe and turn the package over to read the label and see natural flavor, spices, vinegar.. etc.. (which bites, to be honest) then I see that it's made by ConAgra or Hains or Kraft.. etc.. I get so happy. (I know, dumb) I love companies that clearly mark gluten on the label. They make my day!

Priceless information for new Celiacs

There are a number of companies/brands that will clearly label all gluten sources. This is excellent information to have at the grocery store. Several very large food companies do have this policy. You need to look for wheat, rye, oats or barley in their ingredient lists. If you don't see any of those words on one of theirproducts, then the product is gluten-free. It is not enough to just look for wheat.

The list I have of roughly 50 "trusted" brands/manufacturers is:
Arrowhead Mills, Aunt Nelly's, Balance, Baskin Robbins, Ben & Jerry, Bertoli, Betty Crocker, Blue Bunny, Breyers, Campbells, Cascadian Farms, Celestial Seasonings, ConAgra, Country Crock, Edy's, General Mills, Good Humor, Green Giant, Haagen Daz, Hellman's, Hershey, Hormel, Hungry Jack, Jiffy, Knorr, Kozy Shack, Kraft, Lawry's, Libby's, Lipton, Martha White, Maxwell House, McCormick, Nabisco, Nestle, Old El Paso, Ortega, Pillsbury, Popsicle, Post, Progresso, Ragu, Russell Stover, Seneca Foods, Skippy, Smucker, Stokely's, Sunny Delight, T Marzetti, Tyson, Unilever, Wishbone, Yoplait, Zatarain's.

This doesn't mean that these companies don't make lots of products with gluten in them. It just means that they won't hide it, so if you see something like "natural flavor" in the ingredients, but don't see the words wheat, rye, oats or barley, then you know that the flavor does not contain hidden gluten.

I can't possibly think of better information to get you started.
